animalplants_12.jpgAnimals from closed Maryland Zoo need your help!       animal_01.jpg

Many of you have voiced your concern for the animals at the Plumpton Park Zoo in Maryland.  As soon as word broke that the zoo was closing and pigs were involved, their fate was secured by Ranger’s Rescue at Gallastar Equine Center in Virginia.  The owners of the zoo were relieved to find placement for the four potbellied pigs with the assurance that they would be well taken care of for the remainder of their lives.  The pigs have left the closed zoo but there is still plenty that we need to do.

The vet bills are projected to be well over one thousand dollars for the required spays/neuter, vaccinations and de worming  Intact female pigs have an almost certain chance of developing deadly  reproductive diseases and the obvious problem of possibly producing yet more miniature pigs for which there are no good homes. Therefore, the females must be spayed. The male will require neutering to prevent any chance of reproduction and to enable him to comfortably share in the company of his own kind, something that all pigs need and deserve.

We now must turn to each and every one of you to lend assistance with this critical aspect of the rescue. Please help in bringing this effort to a truly happy conclusion with the health of these animals assured. Shepherd’s Green Sanctuary in Tennessee has graciously offered to make all of the arrangements for veterinary care and handle payment for care. If you are able to help, you may send a check to Shepherds Green, 139 Copeland Ln. Cookeville, TN 38506

Here is dear Ruby. Once an adorable piglet probably purchased on a whim, she soon found herself buried alive in mounds of dog food induced fat that robbed her of her sight and hearing.  With her cuteness worn off, Ruby was lucky to have found a home at the zoo instead of being dumped along a roadside to be savaged by dogs or at the local pound where so many find themselves terrified and alone as they meet their final destiny by staff totally unable to handle the job humanely. With your help, we will make sure that Ruby’s final years are spent in the safety and comfort that she and her friends deserve.
