Pig Christmas 2011

For the pigs at Shepherd's Green it's the very best day of their year.  A pigs life is measured in tastes and helpings. And on Pigmas these little ones have more choices of foods in front of them than they can eat. They start out grabbing it in competitive style, then realize the piles weren't going down very fast so they  get selective, maybe a cookie, no, maybe a banana, no I think pasta.... yes, pasta will be good .. with whipped cream!!!!    Typically we put out about 1500 pounds of fresh produce and treats. As they get full they walk by and look but decide to save some for a snack later. If you look out at dawn the day after Pig Christmas, you will see some opportunistic little pigs gathering the "leftovers", before their regular breakfast.   Others take something to bed with them.

And every year our sponsors make this possible by providing Pigmas meals, selected from the resident list below. I update the file daily so we can all see the names being chosen. Some are chosen multiple times which is wonderful.. it helps us provide our many normal breakfasts in the cold of winter.

It was a nice day, no rain or snow.. the pigs happily munched their way through 1500 pounds of fruits and vegetables and a 250 pound tub of cookies, popcorn, candy and other "treats"

Yes, Tommy.. it's  Pig Christmas
